Acting as part of a hands-on technical team, responsible for the management of the Technical Administrator and Specification Technologist(s). You will provide support with customer complaint investigations, reviewing and maintaining technical systems, management of site visits and audits, as well as ensuring product is produced to high quality and customer standards and within safety and legality requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting direct reports and teams in providing training and development plans.
  • Assisting the QA Manager and QA teams with their decision-making processes.
  • A holistic approach, building relationships with other departments to achieve shared KPIs.
  • Be involved in managing day to day issues with the production teams and ensuring appropriate actions are taken and documented where deviations from specified controls occur.
  • Support and develop the site-based Quality Management System, by working closely with the Technical Manager.
  • Assisting in new product trials and providing feedback of key challenges in the process.
  • Ensuring compliance within your area of responsibility, working in part with the site compliance team.
  • Is a key member of the HACCP Food Safety Plan, deputy to the team leader.
  • Lead site technical audits and visits in absence of the Technical Manager.
  • Lead independent projects as and when the need arises.
  • Develop expertise across the site, fully understanding the processes, parameters and constraints.
  • Undertake such ad-hoc duties as maybe required to benefit the business.

  • Deliver on key performance indicators including; people, quality, health, safety and environment, cost optimistation, customer service and project delivery.
  • Challenge current processes and practices, with a view to continuously improve site.
  • Objectively assess direct reports performance and develop improvement plans.
  • Ensure that Department Supervisors are accountable for their area of responsibility.
  • Ensure clarity of role for team members, including assigning of tasks and providing feedback.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant legislation, internal company policies and procedures, codes of practice, technical specifications, COSHH regulations and developments in H.A.C.C.P systems relevant to the department.
  • Uphold good housekeeping and hygiene practices to ensure product safety, with particular attention to temperature control and general hygiene.
  • Review and update the training requirements of the department in line with current legislation and changing departmental operations
  • Respect and honour the sentiment of the ethical policies and codes of conduct when interacting with colleagues
  • Ensure that all staff have been given the appropriate level of training necessary to carry out their work within legislative and Health and Safety guidelines
  • Carry out activities with full awareness of their impact on the environment, in terms of people and the local area
  • Ensure that you understand and adhere to your personal responsibilities with regard the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, Environmental Protection Act 1990, Site Environmental Permit, company HSE policies, site safety rules, and procedures at all times
  • To identify hazards in the workplace and to take corrective action or initiate controls to minimise the risk
  • To effectively promote Health, Safety and Environmental awareness within your areas of control
  • Ensuring that all HSE information relevant to "preventative and protective measures" is communicated to your subordinates
  • Carry out activities with full awareness of their impact on the environment, both in terms of people and the local area
  • Effectively manage energy and waste within the department

Job Related Experience, Knowledge & Skills

  • Previous experience of FMCG manufacturing (preferably food related)

  • Management of quality systems
  • Ability to interact with high profile customers

General Attainment & Training

  • All core training and mandatory procedures
  • All relevant site/area policies, procedures & processes (including customer specific requirements)
  • Experience in continuous improvement and lean principles/tools
  • Food Safety Level 4
  • HACCP Level 4
  • IOSH
