Are you passionate about assisting the educational and emotional development of students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?

GSL Education are seeking a caring and dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join the brilliant team of a school located in Hull. This role comes with pride in helping students achieve their full potential through tailored support and innovative teaching methods.

The Role:

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with social, emotional and mental health needs, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their educational goals. This position involves working closely with students, teachers and other support staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities of an SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide one-on-one and group support to students with SEMH needs, helping them to engage with their learning and manage their emotions and behaviour.
  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging lessons and adapting materials and strategies to meet the needs of SEMH students.
  • Track and report on the progress of students, identifying areas for improvement and celebrating successes.
  • Implement effective behaviour management strategies, promoting positive behaviour and addressing challenging behaviour appropriately.
  • Offer emotional support and guidance to students, helping them to develop coping strategies and build resilience.
  • Maintain regular communication with teachers, parents and external agencies to ensure a coordinated approach to supporting students.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs.
  • A background in psychology, counselling, or experience in behaviour management.
  • Demonstrably strong empathy, patience and a commitment to supporting the holistic development of each student.
  • Good organisational abilities, strong communication and classroom management skills and the capacity to run a classroom efficiently.
  • An understanding and compassionate approach to helping the students.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work in a secondary school environment.
  • An updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
