GSL Education is seeking an experienced Behaviour Support Assistant to work at a specialist PRU in Hull, dedicated to supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, as well as Autism (ASC). Students have been kicked out of mainstream school and now attend a Pupil Referral Unit.

Key Responsibilities of a SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs, Autism, ADHD, and other learning difficulties.
  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging and accessible lessons, ensuring that all students can participate effectively.
  • Build trusting and supportive relationships with students to help them manage emotions, behaviour, and social interactions.
  • Implement structured behaviour management techniques to encourage positive engagement in learning.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to develop and implement effective intervention strategies.
  • Support students in developing essential life skills, promoting independence and confidence.
  • Encourage a calm and inclusive learning environment that fosters emotional well-being.

Key Requirements:

  • Experience working with children with SEMH, Autism, ADHD, or other additional needs.
  • A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach to supporting students with challenging behaviours.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students.
  • An understanding of safeguarding procedures and behaviour management strategies.
  • A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
