On behalf of our highly successful client, we are recruiting for an experienced Senior Buyer to join their civil engineering company. This well-respected firm, based in East Yorkshire, works on a variety of civil engineering projects under framework agreements with both private and local authorities. With a long-standing team and impressive growth curve, they offer a dynamic environment that encourages growth and development.Role Overview:This is a full-time, office-based position for a Senior Buyer primarily focused on placing subcontract orders. The role involves handling orders on a back-to-back basis using both NEC and JCT contract frameworks, negotiating with subcontractors, and ensuring the procurement of materials and services aligns with project timelines. Responsibilities include:

  • Placing and managing subcontract orders.
  • Negotiating with subcontractors, evaluating quotations, and conducting price comparisons.
  • Monitoring supplier performance and updating the preferred suppliers list.
  • Streamlining procurement processes for timely delivery of materials and services.
About the candidate:
  • Strong negotiation and vendor management abilities.
  • In-depth experience with NEC and JCT contract documents.
  • Collaborative team player with a positive attitude.
  • Extensive background in procurement and supply chain management.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and written communication.
  • Ability to analyse market trends and make informed purchasing decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, fostering strong supplier relationships.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Knowledge of contract law and procurement regulations.
  • A minimum of 10 years' experience in procurement within the civil engineering  or construction industry.
  • Strong financial and numerical acumen.
  • Exceptional negotiation and networking skills.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
