Shift Laboratory Technician

Salary: Competitive (dependent on experience)

Hours: 12-hour shifts covering a 24/7 rotation | 38.5 hours per week

Company Overview:

Our client is a leading manufacturer in the yeast and fermentation industry, supplying high-quality products to global markets. Their commitment to excellence in quality control, food safety, and innovation makes them a key player in the sector. They are now looking to expand their laboratory team and are seeking 2 experienced Shift Laboratory Technician to support their Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) functions.

Role Overview:

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced laboratory environment, carrying out analytical and microbiological testing to ensure product quality and food safety standards are met. You will be responsible for testing raw materials, in-process samples, and final products while maintaining strict compliance with ISO 9001:2015 and BRC food safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct analytical and microbiological testing on plant samples with precision and accuracy.
  • Calibrate and maintain lab equipment to ensure reliable results.
  • Interpret test results and report non-conformances, escalating issues where necessary.
  • Support quality control inspections and highlight any food safety concerns.
  • Assist in effluent treatment plant (ETP) analysis and after-hours monitoring.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records in compliance with ISO and HACCP requirements.
  • Participate in internal and external audits related to food safety and hygiene.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Prior experience working in a laboratory environment within food, chemical, or petrochemical industries.
  • Strong knowledge of QC and QA processes, food safety, and hygiene standards.
  • Experience using analytical and microbiological testing techniques.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint for data presentation and reporting.
  • Excellent time management, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Desirable Skills & Qualifications:

  • BSc in Microbiology, Food Science, or a related field (or HND equivalent).
  • Experience supporting food safety culture improvements and working with HACCP systems.
  • Previous involvement in site audits and inspections.
