Molecular Biologist (Graduate)

Our client is an innovative biotechnology company based outside of the centre of Cambridge. They run their own gene therapy portfolio and have built a platform to synthesise gene constructs which provides exciting possibilities for ensuring cheaper, faster and more accurate DNA / gene constructs than traditional plasmid-based methods. In a key phase of their growth, our client is looking to onboard a competent scientist in the field of molecular biology and construct generation on a full-time and permanent basis.

The Opportunity

  • This is an opportunity for a Scientist who has experience in molecular cloning and gene assembly (Golden Gate, Gibson assembly, Hifi) and potentially software like Benchling / SnapGene etc. If you are looking for the next step in their career then this opportunity could be for you. As a Scientist within the molecular biology team you will be responsible for:
  • Working on a range of molecular biology projects relating to synthetic DNA process development.
  • Use of techniques including: DNA cloning (Gibson assembly, HiFi, Golden Gate cloning), primer design, PCR, restriction enzyme digests, plasmid purification, E. coli transformation, gel electrophoresis and synthetic biology)
  • Keep a comprehensive and up-to-date record of experiments and data/results
  • Plan, refine and complete experiments which align with overall project plans.
  • Work individually and collaboratively within the R&D teams.
  • Attend departmental meetings and training sessions

Skills and Experience Needed

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • BSc/MSc in a biological discipline (essential - new graduates welcome, equivalent experience welcome)
  • Experience in E.coli transformations and plasmid preparation (essential)
  • Experience in gel electrophoresis and DNA/RNA quantification (essential)
  • Experience in Primer and Sequence Design (desired)
  • Experience in DNA assembly i.e Golden Gate, HiFi, Gibson assembly (desired)
  • Experience in troubleshooting and developing laboratory protocols (desired)
  • Excellent communication skills (essential)
