Our client is a successful construction business based in Huntingdon. They are seeking an Estimator to join them on a permanent basis.

Not a corporate business but a small successful family business who are enjoying solid growth.

They would like a candidate who comes from their industry i.e. consultancy work, liaising with the client, architects, engineers and so forth. Their industry is consulting on external refurbishment to existing and new buildings. So, you will be familiar with liaising with architects, clients, builders, engineers etc.

Salary:

Candidates with years of the right industry experience can expect a salary of £50K+

Candidates who do not have the right industry experience BUT have sound estimator experience can expect a salary of around £35K as the business will need to train you up.

Duties:

  • Receive new enquiries via email / phone and set up the new opportunity on the tender log, download relevant files and open a folder for the project.
  • Decide on estimator(s) to price enquiry.
  • Assess the suitability of the opportunity for pricing based on the business's strategy.
  • Where required, carry out site visits to carry out a survey / discuss the client's requirements and take & save relevant photographs.
  • Email any tender queries to client if necessary.
  • Obtain prices from suppliers and sub-contractors to enable tender preparation and save any received quotations within estimates folder.
  • Prepare tender returns based on the information provided and in keeping with the business's strategy. Show breakdowns of any rate calculations/area measures within folder.
  • Submit tender returns on time (whenever possible) and update the tender log with the relevant information.
  • Relevant estimator to follow up on submitted tenders to establish which main contractor secured the works and secondly establish how competitive our quotation was.
  • If a tender is of interest or up for negotiation, discuss/liaise with Estimating Director to decide on suitable course of action. Submit revised quotations is required.
  • If a tender is successful, collate the relevant information and pass it onto the operations / contract team to carry out the works. Site handover if necessary. Include rate calculations, area measures, sub-contractors' quotes, revised quotation, within handover pack.
  • Allow for completion of Contract Award form if order exceeds £10,000.
  • Maintain pricing libraries with current material, labour, and plant elements. Periodically seek feedback from the operations team to ensure the rates being used are still applicable.
  • Based on feedback received on submitted tenders, keep a list of projects likely to be won by the business and schedule calls to the MC / client, to keep track of the project progress.
  • Track tenders and opportunity conversions, on a monthly basis in preparation of estimating meetings.
  • Attend and contribute to estimating meetings reporting to the Estimating Director.

Hours: 9am - 5pm Office based. 20 days & Bank Holiday rising to 25 after just one year.
