Job description

Head Herdsperson Cambridgeshire

An exciting position has become available for aHead Herdsperson to join our team in Cambridgeshire.

Our Farm

We are a family-owned progressive mixed farming business on the Cambridgeshire border, milking 400 Holsteins through 8 A5 Lely robots. The cows are housed all year round, with the Heifers grazing part of the year, with their milk supplied on an Arla contract. The farm operates on an all-year-round calving system, with our records kept up to date using Cow Manager. The farm is just over 1000 acres including mixed grassland and an arable operation alongside the dairy unit. We are currently harvesting 500 acres of cereal crops including wheat, barley and grass for the farm's forage use.

You will make up a passionate full-time team of 4, plus some part-time staff and the farm owners.

Your role

As a Head Herdsperson, you will be leading the dairy team with the day-to-day duties whilst also taking control of the farm while the farm manager is away. Key roles and responsibilities include.

- Daily management of the herd and ensuring animal welfare is the top priority.

- Identifying and treating lame & sick cows

- Machinery work including maintenance of the farm equipment & Lely robots

- Liaising with Vets, nutritionists and consultants for the farm.

- Keeping the overall farm tidy and safe to operate. Adhering to all health & safety regulations

- Keeping basic records and compliance up to date.

- Taking full responsibility for dry cow management, calving cows and colostrum protocols.

- Effectively leading the team with daily tasks

- General stockperson work.

Qualifications & Licenses required

- A full UK Driving license.

- Proof of UK right to work

- AI & Foot trimming Qualification preferred

- Telehandler & Forklift License preferred
