Trainee Design Engineer

An established leader in processing equipment and solutions for the packaging / food processing manufacturing industry requires a Trainee Design Engineer to join their design team.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or someone early in their engineering career to develop their skills and gain valuable experience.

We require applicants to have some 3D modelling experience and preferably SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor knowledge.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing and designing engineering solutions.
  • Create technical drawings using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD.
  • Participate in design reviews and receive guidance from senior engineers.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Support project planning and provide input on estimates.
  • Communicate with suppliers for prices and delivery times.

Required Qualifications, Skills:

  • Mechanical Engineering qualification or a related field.
  • Basic knowledge of engineering design principles.
  • Familiarity with Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous hands-on experience in a shop floor environment (e.g., machining, welding, fabrication) or as a time-served apprentice.
  • 3D modelling experience.
  • Basic understanding of steam systems, energy calculations, fluid systems, pumps and pipe work, pneumatics, stress calculations, sizing of motor/gearboxes for applications, sheet metal development, and tolerance of machined parts.

Salary:

  • Competitive, depending on experience.

Working Hours:

  • 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday. Overtime is sometimes available.

Location:

  • In the St. Neots - Cambourne - Huntingdon area (Cambridgeshire / Bedfordshire). Applicants will need to have their own transport due to the rural company's location.
  • Commutable from: Huntingdon, Cambridge, Sandy, St. Neots, Bedford, Biggleswade, Letchworth Garden City, Cambourne, Royston, Saffron Walden.
