Production Technician - BCP

Encocam engineering are searching for a new Production Technicianfor our composite panels division (BCP), to work in our Huntingdon factory in Cambridgeshire.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Production Technician to join our dynamic team at a leading composite structures manufacturing company. As a Production Technician, you will play a crucial role in technical operations, ensuring the highest standards of quality and efficiency in the production of composite structures.

You will be involved in the sophisticated manufacture and assembly of products, adhering to established specifications and instructions. Your responsibilities will extend to conducting final checks and adjustments to identify and rectify any defects, ensuring the delivery of top-tier products to our customers.

BCP manufacture an array of composite products for the Rail, Marine, Aerospace, Automotive and Architecture industries and also caters for the industrial digital printing industry by manufacturing specialist vacuum tables.

The role includes: -

  • Fabrication & Assembly:
    • Lay-up and cure composite materials in moulds according to engineering specifications and process sheets.
    • Trim, bond, and assemble composite components using various tools and techniques.
    • Operate and maintain equipment such as manual and powered cutting and finishing tools as well as Industrial Curing ovens.
    • Contribute towards the manufacture of Vacuum table production and inspection.

oAssemble, prepare and maintain tooling for composite lay-up.

oSome heavy lifting required.

  • Material Preparation:
    • Prepare and mix resin systems, adhesives, and other composite materials.
    • Cut and kit materials such as carbon fibre and fiberglass for lay-up.
    • Prepare reinforcement surfaces for bonding using specialist chemical applicators.
    • Ensure proper handling and storage of composite materials to prevent contamination and degradation.
    • Wet and Dry Sand Metallic Surfaces to the desired specification.
  • Quality Control:
    • Inspect finished parts for defects and conformance to specifications using measuring tools and visual inspection techniques.
    • Perform repairs on composite parts, including sanding, patching, and re-lamination.
    • Document and maintain records of work performed, including inspection reports and material usage logs.
    • Ensure that products manufactured meet quality standards.
  • Process Improvement:
    • Assist in the development and optimization of composite manufacturing processes.
    • Provide feedback on tooling design and manufacturing methods to improve efficiency and quality.

oCollaborate with engineers and other team members to troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing issues

oTrain new employees in the manufacturing process and handling of the equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Experience:
    • 3+ years of experience in composite fabrication and assembly, preferably in a high-precision environment.
    • Familiarity with composite reinforcement materials, such as carbon fibre, fiberglass, Kevlar, and resin systems.
    • Familiarity with composite core materials, such as Aluminium Honeycomb, Nomex Honeycomb, PVC and PMI Foams.
    • Experience with Vacuum Bagging, Pre-preg Lay-up, Resin Infusion and Wet Lay Manufacturing Techniques, use of composite curing processes using ovens and presses.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical documents.
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to perform work with high precision.
    • Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting purposes.
    • Ability to share knowledge to assist others.

You need to have team-working skills and the ability to establish good relationships with both colleagues and customers through effective communication and good language skills.

It would desirable as well if you had a good understanding of 3D solid geometries and were able to use e-Drawings and basic Solidworks.
