About the Role:

Our client is looking to strengthen their Civil team with an Estimator for their Central framework. Based at the Hattersley office, you will be responsible for creating project estimates for a multi-million-pound design & build framework within the water sector. Reporting directly to the Estimating Manager, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Appraisal of civil solutions, reviewing scope, specifications, and drawings to ensure estimates and supplier quotations comply with client requirements.
  • Producing detailed activity schedules or Bills of Quantities (BOQ) from specifications and drawings, in line with the client's cost capture system.
  • Selecting the most suitable subcontractors and suppliers for each project and inviting them to tender.
  • Obtaining accurate prices for all aspects, including subcontracts, materials, plant, and labour.
  • Pricing/producing estimates for all or some aspects of the works using agreed standardised rates and first principles.
  • Reading and interpreting detailed construction programmes and developing simple critical path programmes to inform project-related costs.
  • Producing budget and target cost workbooks for presentation in internal governance sessions before submission to the client.


About the Client:

Our client is an integrated design and build provider working within the water sector. With over 1,000 staff across eight regional centres, they support several long-term water sector frameworks and recently won two additional frameworks. They operate both as a sole contractor and in joint ventures and alliances.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Estimating solutions and ensuring compliance with client requirements.
  • Developing activity schedules and BOQs for works.
  • Subcontractor and supplier selection, tender invitations, and pricing.
  • Bottom-up estimating using standardised rates and principles.
  • Interpreting construction programmes and critical path planning.
  • Presenting budget and target cost workbooks internally before client submission.


What Our Client is Looking For:

  • Qualification in civil engineering.
  • Experience in the water or utilities sector.
  • Multi-disciplinary engineering environment experience.
  • Knowledge of civil construction (e.g., earthworks, R.C. bases, roads, drainage, etc.) and associated temporary works.
  • Current relevant CSCS card.
