My client is looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team on a 120m project based in East London. This is a key role where you will be responsible for managing the commercial costs and overseeing the procurement of specialist equipment required for the project.

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will play a crucial part in ensuring the project is delivered within budget and in line with all financial and commercial objectives. The role requires a highly analytical individual with proven experience in cost management, procurement, and risk management, ideally within the rail or infrastructure sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cost Management: Oversee and manage all costs relating to the project, ensuring it is completed within the projected budget.
  • Financial & Commercial Advice: Provide ongoing financial and commercial advice to the project team, helping to ensure that project costs are well controlled.
  • Tender & Contract Documentation: Prepare tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Cost Control: Monitor and control costs throughout the project lifecycle, providing regular reports and forecasts to stakeholders.
  • Risk Management: Identify, analyse, and develop responses to commercial risks, including potential cost overruns and delays.
  • Subcontractor Procurement & Payments: Manage the procurement of subcontractors, ensure timely payment, and oversee final accounts.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, quality standards, and other contractual obligations.


Person Specification:

  • Experience: Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor, with a strong background in managing complex projects. Experience within the rail sector would be a distinct advantage.
  • Knowledge: Sound knowledge of NEC 3/4 Target Cost contracts and experience in procurement processes.
  • Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Multitasking: Strong ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, ensuring all deadlines are met.
  • Communication & Negotiation: Strong communication and negotiation skills, capable of interacting with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Qualifications: A relevant degree or professional qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related field is required. Membership with a professional body (e.g., RICS) is desirable but not essential.
  • Personal Attributes: Proactive, self-motivated, with a collaborative approach to problem-solving and teamworking.
