Role Overview:
As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher and other staff members to support children with special educational needs, particularly those with Autism. You will play a key role in fostering a positive and engaging learning environment, promoting inclusion, and helping children build social, emotional, and academic skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to children with Autism, assisting with their individual learning plans.
- Use strategies to support communication, social skills, and emotional regulation.
- Assist in the delivery of tailored interventions to meet the needs of children with Autism.
- Support the class teacher in managing classroom behaviour and promoting a positive, inclusive atmosphere.
- Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents.
- Collaborate with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and other staff to ensure the childs needs are being met.
Essential Criteria:
- Previous experience working with children with Autism, particularly in a primary school setting.
- A good understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder and strategies to support learning and behaviour.
- Experience in supporting children with a range of educational and emotional needs.
- A compassionate, patient, and empathetic approach to working with children.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Relevant qualifications, such as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or equivalent experience.
Desirable Criteria:
- Training in specific Autism support strategies (e.g., TEACCH, PECS, Makaton, etc.).
- Experience of supporting children with other SEN (e.g., ADHD, learning difficulties).
