What is the job role of a Port Operative?

Stafforce port operatives support the UK's supply chain from discharge to distribution.

No two days are the same in shipping and a port operative may cover many different roles which include:

  • Stevedore / Quayside duties
  • Plant driving including Forklift Trucks, Payloaders, Shovels, Tugs and Mobile harbour cranes
  • Weighbridge or Gatehouse
  • Stock counts
  • Industrial cleaning
  • Traffic Marshall and Vehicle banksman

What criteria do you need to apply?

Stafforce provides excellent training to ensure you have the right knowledge and skills to excel in Port and Shipping operations, we hire on attitude and train for success!

Essential:

  • Health and Safety conscious at all times
  • Team player committed to ensuring the completion of works in a safe and timely manner
  • Flexible approach to work
  • Keen to learn new skills
  • Comfortable working outside in all weathers

Desirable:

  • Full UK driving licence
  • Valid or Expired Counterbalance Forklift Truck
  • HGV licence
  • Valid or Expired Payloader / Shovel Licence
  • Experience in similar role such as port operative, stevedore, CSCS labourer, plant driver, forklift driver, shovel driver, vehicle banksman, slinger banksman, crane driver, quarry operative, warehouse operative, weighbridge is highly desirable
  • Previous experience working with commodities such as Steel, 1t Bags or Timber
  • Experience operating a radio
