Job Title: Machinist

Location: Ipswich, Suffolk

Salary: 14-15 per hour, plus shift allowance for working a rotating shift pattern

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 6:00 am - 2:00 pm and 2:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain manual machining tools such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drill presses to produce or repair precision mechanical parts.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and design specifications to understand project requirements and plan machining operations accordingly.
  • Set up, align, and secure work pieces on machinery, ensuring proper configuration and calibration of tools and equipment for each job.
  • Perform accurate measurements using precision instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify dimensions and tolerances of machined components.
  • Monitor the machining process, making adjustments to feed rates, cutting speeds, and tool positions to ensure quality and adherence to specifications.
  • Inspect finished products for defects, ensuring they meet required quality standards and specifications.
  • Maintain a clean and organised work environment, following safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with machinery or work pieces, making necessary repairs or modifications to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Keep accurate records of work performed, including materials used, time spent, and measurements taken, to support quality control and project tracking.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and other team members to optimise machining processes and improve production efficiency.
