The type of person we are looking to attract may currently sit in a role anywhere between a Senior Engineer, through to Principal Engineer.
- Their background will be Heavy Civils. Experience of Bridge inspections would be highly advantageous. The role may be suited to a Structural Engineer, with relevant experience, who is perhaps looking for a change but has plenty of transferrable experience and knowledge.
- 'Rail’ experience per se, is not required. We do not carry out signalling/track design, the nature of our work predominantly involves inspecting/designing station assets i.e. buildings, footbridges, canopies etc.
- We would require somebody who could 'hit the ground running’ therefore whilst we don’t stipulate exactly how many years’ experience are required, if they are to be a 'self starter’ and given the seniority of the role, it is unlikely that the right individual would have anything less than 5 years’ work based experience.
- Ideally, we are looking for somebody who is Chartered.
- Work experience must be UK based.
- Salary wise, it would be down to the individual and therefore too broad a range to stipulate. But FYI, our general rule is that we will pay (within reason) what the candidate thinks they are worth, but they would have to prove that worth and essentially 'pay for themselves’ in terms of their output, so the higher they set their bar, the more that will be expected of them. Current salaries range from 45k per annum for seniors, through to circa 85k upwards for a strong Principal/Technical Director type role. So it is difficult to pitch it without knowing the type of candidate that may come forward.
- Our preference is predominantly office based, but we do offer flexible working (generally 3 days office/2 days home - but this is negotiable if we were to have a very strong candidate, and this was a deal breaker).
- Ideally not somebody who wants fully remote working, but again, we would consider it if the candidate was very strong.
- We have a satellite office in Norwich and would be amenable to somebody working from here if this helps to broaden the search.
- We are very much looking for somebody whose passion, knowledge, experience, and skills are in the technical work and where possible, being able to develop junior employees. Whilst we wouldn’t instantly rule anybody out who was motivated in this way, we are not looking for somebody who wishes to progress through to Associate Director etc as the focus of this role needs to be technical rather than company leadership focussed.
Benefits
- We are an Employee-Owned Trust (EOT) - essentially this means that our employees own the company. The company is run day to day, by a small board of directors, but they are accountable to a board of Trustees who ensure that company decisions are made in the best interests of employees. Employees are very much at the forefront of decisions/we genuinely engage with, involve and develop our staff. We believe that becoming an EOT demonstrates our commitment to securing the future of the company.
- We would provide private healthcare (currently through vitality) to the individual, as well as partner/spouse and dependants living in the same household.
- We offer 25 days annual leave (3 of these are to be taken between Christmas and New Year when the company shuts down) plus there is the option to buy 10 additional days leave.
- Cycle to work scheme
- Electric car leasing scheme
- High Street discount scheme through Sage, with additional access to an EAP and 24hr online/telephone GP access.
- Discretionary (company performance dependent) annual bonus/ salary review. The first ÂŁ3600 of any such bonus is tax free, since we are an EOT
