Job Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Controls Engineer with experience in Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) to join our dynamic engineering team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design, programming, testing, and maintenance of PLC-based control systems in manufacturing and industrial environments. The role will also involve troubleshooting, improving system performance, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • PLC Programming: Design, develop, and implement PLC programs for automation systems using platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or Mitsubishi.
  • System Design: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop control systems for various machinery and processes.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve issues related to PLC programming, I/O devices, electrical controls, and field devices.
  • System Integration: Integrate PLC systems with SCADA, HMI, and other industrial control systems for seamless operation.
  • Testing & Commissioning: Conduct tests and simulations to ensure proper functioning of control systems before implementation in live production environments.
  • Documentation: Create detailed technical documentation including PLC programs, system specifications, electrical schematics, and operator manuals.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements, optimize control systems for better performance, and suggest upgrades or changes to improve system reliability and efficiency.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and production teams to ensure the integration of control systems into broader projects.
  • Compliance: Ensure that control systems comply with all relevant safety standards, regulations, and industry best practices.
Key Qualifications:
  • Education: HNC or better in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • At least 1-3 years of experience in a controls engineering role with hands-on experience in PLC programming and troubleshooting.
    • Experience with PLC platforms such as Allen-Bradley (ControlLogix, CompactLogix), Siemens (S7, TIA Portal), Mitsubishi, or similar.
    • Familiarity with industrial automation systems, including sensors, actuators, drives, and motors.
    • Experience in HMI/SCADA systems integration and programming is a plus.
    • Previous experience in manufacturing, automotive, food processing, or other industrial sectors is preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Proficient in programming languages such as Ladder Logic, Structured Text (ST), Function Block Diagram (FBD), and Sequential Function Chart (SFC).
    • Strong understanding of electrical circuits, industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Modbus, etc.), and automation hardware.
    • Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
    • Ability to work independently and within a team, managing multiple tasks and projects efficiently.
    • Knowledge of safety standards (e.g., NFPA, IEC, OSHA) and experience with risk assessments and compliance audits is a plus.
  • Tools:
    • Proficient with PLC programming software such as RSLogix 5000, TIA Portal, GX Works, or equivalent.
    • Experience with AutoCAD Electrical or other CAD software for schematic design is a plus.
