Salary: £35,232 to £40,590 p.a.

Casanovas Recruitment Solutionsare seeking a Payroll Manager to ensure the efficient and timely delivery of payroll operations, drive compliance with employment law, and enhance HR and payroll systems. In this role, you’ll play a key part in shaping processes, generating insightful management reports, and delivering top-quality service to the College community.

Main areas of responsibility:

  • Oversee the monthly payroll process, ensuring accurate administration, timely BACS payments, and distribution of payslip
  • Respond to queries from staff, Inland Revenue, Benefits Agency, and DSS; prepare statutory reports and annual returns
  • Manage payroll-related queries on salaries, tax, and NI, while training HR and payroll staff to handle queries effectively
  • Administer statutory and occupational sick and maternity pay schemes, advising staff as needed
  • Reconcile payroll-related accounts, generate monthly reports, and liaise with finance teams
  • Ensure accurate processing of payroll for starters and leavers and provide pay-related guidance
  • Maintain and enhance payroll systems, ensuring backups and system updates are regularly conducted
  • Manage pension schemes (e.g., TPS and LGPS), including data input, monthly payments, and annual returns
  • Produce statistical reports, including staffing forecasts, absence records, and external submissions
  • Supervise and appraise payroll staff, setting priorities, and overseeing training and development
  • Support audits, update the Payroll Manual, and recommend improvements to procedures and systems
  • Represent HR and Payroll in internal and external working groups and assist with strategic projects
  • Ensure compliance with Data Protection, Health and Safety regulations, and other legal obligations
  • Propose and implement system enhancements to improve payroll operations

Required Skills & Desired Experience:

  • Competent with IT including Microsoft Office
  • Proven Payroll experience
  • Strong knowledge of basis taxation and NI procedures
  • Good understanding of employment law and best practices
  • Work well as a team as well as individually with minimal supervision
  • Operate to strict deadlines and have great time management
  • Proactive and flexible approach
