Job Title: Payroll Manager
Salary: £35,232 to £40,590 p.a.
Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week

Casanovas Recruitment Solutionsare seeking a Payroll Manager to ensure the efficient and timely delivery of payroll operations, drive compliance with employment law, and enhance HR and payroll systems. In this role, you’ll play a key part in shaping processes, generating insightful management reports, and delivering top-quality service to the College community.
Main areas of responsibility:
- Oversee the monthly payroll process, ensuring accurate administration, timely BACS payments, and distribution of payslip
- Respond to queries from staff, Inland Revenue, Benefits Agency, and DSS; prepare statutory reports and annual returns
- Manage payroll-related queries on salaries, tax, and NI, while training HR and payroll staff to handle queries effectively
- Administer statutory and occupational sick and maternity pay schemes, advising staff as needed
- Reconcile payroll-related accounts, generate monthly reports, and liaise with finance teams
- Ensure accurate processing of payroll for starters and leavers and provide pay-related guidance
- Maintain and enhance payroll systems, ensuring backups and system updates are regularly conducted
- Manage pension schemes (e.g., TPS and LGPS), including data input, monthly payments, and annual returns
- Produce statistical reports, including staffing forecasts, absence records, and external submissions
- Supervise and appraise payroll staff, setting priorities, and overseeing training and development
- Support audits, update the Payroll Manual, and recommend improvements to procedures and systems
- Represent HR and Payroll in internal and external working groups and assist with strategic projects
- Ensure compliance with Data Protection, Health and Safety regulations, and other legal obligations
- Propose and implement system enhancements to improve payroll operations
Required Skills & Desired Experience:
- Competent with IT including Microsoft Office
- Proven Payroll experience
- Strong knowledge of basis taxation and NI procedures
- Good understanding of employment law and best practices
- Work well as a team as well as individually with minimal supervision
- Operate to strict deadlines and have great time management
- Proactive and flexible approach
