Premier Engineering is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a leading company based in Ipswich. This role involves designing Special Purpose Machinery, taking projects from concept through to production, and working closely with engineering and manufacturing teams.

The Mechanical Design Engineer will ideally have the following attributes:

  • A degree or HND/HNC in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Experience in mechanical design, ideally within Special Purpose Machinery or automation
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar)
  • Strong knowledge of materials, fabrication, and machining processes
  • Experience with designing for manufacturability and assembly (DFM/DFA)
  • Ability to conduct design calculations and validation testing
  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work within a team environment
  • Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems (desirable)
The Mechanical Design Engineer role will involve:
  • Designing and developing Special Purpose Machinery from concept to production
  • Creating 3D models, detailed drawings, and BOMs using CAD software
  • Working closely with production and engineering teams to optimize designs for manufacturing
  • Conducting design reviews and ensuring compliance with industry standards
  • Liaising with customers and suppliers regarding technical specifications
  • Supporting prototype development, testing, and troubleshooting design issues
  • Managing multiple projects while ensuring deadlines and budgets are met
