Maintenance Operative (Town Ranger) – Stowmarket Town Council is currently looking for a Maintenance Operative (Town Ranger) to join their team based in Stowmarket, Suffolk on a full-time basis.

Are you ready to make a tangible difference in the beautiful town of Stowmarket? We are seeking a physically fit, hardworking individual to join our team. This hands-on role involves a variety of maintenance tasks aimed at addressing environmental issues and enhancing the local environment. Other duties include:

  • Conduct grounds maintenance activities such as planting, minor landscaping, weed clearance/spraying
  • Regularly inspect public rights of way
  • Perform minor repairs and landscaping works as needed.
  • Clean identified signage and street furniture
  • conduct safety checks on play equipment in Town Council-owned playgrounds.
  • Engage with community and volunteer groups to coordinate practical activities and tasks.
  • Be responsible for the efficient setup and clearing of the weekly market.
  • Undertake litter picking duties and manage waste bin responsibilities.
  • React promptly to incidents of graffiti, vandalism, flyposting, or general untidiness in the town
  • Support the Estate Specialist in performing general grounds maintenance tasks for outdoor areas
  • Actively participate in the operational and logistical elements of the Town Council's annual programme of events
  • Working within the new Town Ranger Service to perform various maintenance tasks designed to improve and enhance the town
  • Work with the Property & Facilities Lead to carry out maintenance, repair, and operational tasks for Town Council facilities and properties
  • Support the delivery of the Town Council's Environmental Protection and Carbon Reduction Plan

The Maintenance Operative (Town Ranger) should have a good standard of literacy and numeracy, experience in a public-facing role, and experience in landscape or grounds maintenance. The ideal candidate should have the ability to operate a range of machinery (e.g., mowers, strimmer’s, power tools), knowledge of health and safety regulations, strong DIY and general maintenance skills, a collaborative and proactive attitude, strong organisational skills, and the ability to work under pressure. Punctuality, reliability, and a friendly demeanour are essential, along with a full clean manual driving licence. Familiarity with the local area and proximity to Stowmarket, experience driving/operating different vehicles and plant (e.g., ride-on mowers), and knowledge of the services provided by Stowmarket Town Council are desirable.

The Maintenance Operative (Town Ranger) position is full time working 37 hours per week. In return we offer a salary of £25,119 per annum with pay award pending.Employee benefits include, 22% employer pension contribution, minimum 31 days leave, including statutory holidays, plus other Employee benefits.
