Senior Occupational Therapist

Location: Ipswich

Salary: 35,507 - 40,019 per annum (depending on experience)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Occupational Therapist to join our team in Ipswich. The role focuses on delivering high-quality, person-centred care as part of a multidisciplinary team. The post holder will also provide leadership, supervision, and education to junior members of the team.

About the Organisation:
The neurological centre boasts a comprehensive neurorehabilitation multidisciplinary team, including neuro occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, neuro physiotherapists, neuropsychologists, rehabilitation nurses, and neuropsychiatrists. The team is led and supported by a consultant in rehabilitation medicine, ensuring integrated, person-centred care for each patient.

Purpose of the Role:
The Senior Occupational Therapist will assess, implement, and evaluate individual care programmes, helping to set and achieve therapeutic goals. This role is key to ensuring high clinical standards and supporting colleagues in the delivery of occupational therapy services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Be professionally and legally responsible for the management of a specific caseload, ensuring high standards of clinical care.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments, using clinical reasoning to develop individualised rehabilitation and treatment plans.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and supervision to junior staff, volunteers, and students, promoting clinical supervision and education.
  • Liaise with health and social care professionals in the planning and delivery of occupational therapy services.
  • Promote choice and service user autonomy in all aspects of clinical practice.
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date written and electronic records are maintained according to professional standards.
  • Facilitate the implementation of new, evidence-based techniques and service development projects.
  • Lead on clinical governance and clinical risk issues, implementing policies, standards, and guidelines to enhance service delivery.
Qualifications Required:
  • Diploma/BSc in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current and valid registration with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Relevant postgraduate training in an appropriate speciality.
  • Evidence of Continued Professional Development (CPD).
Experience, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Experience of working in a relevant clinical setting.
  • Demonstrable experience of using evidence-based practice and outcome measures.
  • Skilled knowledge and application of therapy assessments and interventions, using complex clinical reasoning.
  • Ability to work autonomously, manage caseloads, and set priorities for self and others.
  • Strong ability to assess and manage risks related to occupational performance.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Competent IT skills and knowledge of relevant legislation impacting occupational therapy practice.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to motivate and support team members in achieving goals.
