Client / Role

Our client has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Project Planner to join their Power Transmission & Distribution business. This role involves working on a variety of OHL, underground cabling, and substation projects across Scotland, with values up to £100m.

The position can be based in the Motherwell or Aberdeen office, with a requirement to be onsite up to three days per week once construction begins, alongside site visits and some opportunities for homeworking.

We welcome applicants with diverse sector experience, though all candidates should be accomplished P6 Planners with knowledge of project controls.

What You'll Be Doing

On a day-to-day basis, you will:

  • Support the planning and monitoring of all activities within project programmes.
  • Deliver weekly and monthly programme reports aligned with project reporting timetables.
  • Maintain an accurate, fully logically linked programme in line with contract requirements.
  • Participate in the development of the planning team and promote best practices.

Key Responsibilities for major and complex programmes include:

  • Plan, structure, and lead the planning of project programmes.
  • Manage the interface between the programme and operational staff through structured meetings and progress reporting.
  • Highlight dependencies and interfaces between stakeholders.
  • Identify programme risks and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Identify programme opportunities and suggest capture strategies.
  • Maintain a logically linked Primavera P6 project programme.
  • Ensure the schedule is resourced (plant and personnel) and updated to reflect modifications in execution strategy, working closely with the delivery team to regularly maintain the programme status.

Who We're Looking For

Essential:

  • Competent in Primavera P6, preferably with experience in power transmission projects.
  • Significant operational experience with complex, large-scale construction projects.
  • Proven expertise in project management methodologies.
  • Skilled in collaborating with engineering/operational teams to capture real-time progress.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience working within an NEC3 contract environment.
  • Experience mentoring junior planning staff.
  • Familiarity with change management techniques.
