We are currently looking to recruit a commis chef to join the kitchen team at our family run, 4 star luxury hotel on St Marys, Isles of Scilly. St Marys is the largest of the 5 inhabited islands, 26 miles off the coast of Cornwall. The hotel consists of 38 rooms, some full of history within the original castle building itself and the remaining outside in the grounds with beautiful and unspoilt garden and sea views. The hotel has 2 award winning restaurants.

Job Description

Role: Commis Chef

Contract: Seasonal (March-October)

Responsible To: Head chef

Hours: 40 hours per week. With additional end of season bonus and holiday entitlement.

Purpose of the role:

We are looking for a professional Commis Chef to join our kitchen team.

Main duties and requirements:
  • Prepare menus in collaboration with colleagues
  • Prepare and serve breakfasts
  • Prepare ingredients.
  • Follow the guidance of the Head, sous chef or chef de partie and have input in new ways of presentation or dishes
  • Put effort in optimizing the cooking process with attention to speed and quality
  • Help to maintain a climate of smooth and friendly cooperation
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently under pressure
  • Knowledge of best cooking practice.
  • Excellent timekeeping and personal cleanliness

To be successful in this role you must be well-versed in the culinary arts and adhere to strict standards of hygiene and cleanliness.

Commis chef Requirements:
  • 1or more years experience working within the food industry
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • In-depth knowledge of sanitation principles, food preparation, and nutrition.
  • Capable of working within a kitchen team environment.
  • Takes personal pride in doing a fantastic job including having a very high standard of personal appearance.
  • To liaise and communicate with other team members and other service departments in a clear and timely manner to ensure service delivery and team work.
