Position Overview
Empowering Learning is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a supportive Year 4 team in a mainstream primary school. The role involves providing 1:1 support for a pupil with Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH), with an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP). The LSA will assist the pupil during core subjects (Maths and English) and phonics interventions, ensuring they receive the appropriate support to engage with the curriculum and reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored support to a Year 2 pupil with SEMH, ensuring their needs are met in both group and individual settings.
- Support the pupil during core subjects (Maths and English), adapting resources and strategies to aid learning.
- Assist with phonics intervention to help develop reading and language skills.
- Work alongside the class teacher and TA to implement effective classroom strategies and promote inclusion.
- Monitor and record the pupil's progress, providing feedback to the class teacher.
- Encourage and support the pupil's social and emotional development within the classroom environment.
- Ensure a positive, safe, and nurturing learning environment.
Class Structure:
- Approximately 28 pupils in the class, with a teacher and a class TA present.
- The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher, the TA, and other support staff.
Requirements:
- Experience working with children, preferably with SEMH and special educational needs.
- A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting pupils with additional needs.
- Knowledge or experience in supporting literacy and numeracy, including phonics.
- Strong communication skills to work collaboratively with staff and parents.
- A commitment to inclusive education and ensuring the pupil's educational needs are met.
