The role is crucial in delivering a high-quality fostering service by ensuring that each fostering family's suitability and terms of approval are reviewed annually, in compliance with fostering regulations. As part of the review process, the Fostering Independent Reviewing Officer (FIRO) will conduct thorough audits of records to ensure that high standards of documentation are maintained. Candidates must possess the necessary social work and management skills, along with relevant experience, to effectively perform these tasks and contribute to maintaining the organisation's outstanding quality and standards.
Job mandatory request:
- Chair all household reviews for foster carers and provide high-quality reports with clear recommendations and detailed reasoning.
- Rigorously assess foster carers’ capability to meet the needs of children who are looked after, incorporating their wishes and feelings as well as feedback from other professionals.
- Develop a robust review cycle for foster carers, including mid-review points aligned with improvement planning.
- Provide advice, guidance, and consultation on Jersey Fostering Regulations, JCC Standards, and National Minimum Standards to support high-quality fostering services.
- Plan and facilitate training/workshops for staff, foster carers, and panel members on the reviewing process and legislative framework.
- Foster positive team relationships to promote effective review processes.
- Provide quarterly reports to the service identifying examples of excellent or poor practice, themes and trends, feedback on children’s views and suggestions for development, change to practice, the service or policies and procedures. Prepare and cooperate with assurance activity and regulatory inspections.
General Job Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in statutory social work.
- Clear DBS (preferably on DBS update service)
Social Work England registration
