We are looking for an Accounts Assistant to maintain financial records for a portfolio of clients. Reporting to the Practice Manager, this role involves preparing annual accounts, tax returns, and VAT returns, as well as bookkeeping and supporting the accounts team. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and committed to professional development.

Day to Day of the role:
  • Prepare annual accounts to draft stage for manager review.
  • Prepare self-assessment tax returns and handle HMRC queries and correspondence.
  • Conduct VAT returns and support the accounts team.
  • Perform bookkeeping duties using a range of cloud software.
  • Schedule client appointments and manage important departmental deadlines.
  • Carry out variance analysis and data entry into accounting software.
  • Answer telephone calls, emails, and deal with queries promptly.
  • Record inconsistencies to assist in reconciling inaccuracies.
  • Act as an ambassador for the company, promoting the highest standards of behaviour and attitude.
  • Commit to professional development, enhancing skills and knowledge.
  • Use knowledge and skills to teach and develop other staff within the business.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Studying towards AAT, ACA, ACCA, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in bookkeeping, self-assessment tax returns, year-end accounts, and corporation tax.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritise workload.
  • Proficient IT skills, especially in Excel.
  • Motivated and enthusiastic with a keen eye for detail.
  • Ability to work towards individual and team targets.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to provide professional, punctual, and accurate service to clients.
Desirable Qualifications and Skills:
  • Knowledge and experience of cloud accounting software.
  • AAT Qualified.
