We are seeking a Product Development Specialist to join our Research and Development team. This role involves developing new products and reformulating existing ones, considering efficacy, stability, cost, and manufacturing requirements. The successful candidate will work closely with senior management and various teams to proactively identify development opportunities and deliver successful projects.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Develop new and revise existing product formulations for a range of products, considering cost, ease of production, required process modifications, and raw material constraints.
  • Ensure new product developments can be manufactured using existing processes and plant or identify and develop suitable new processes in conjunction with new products.
  • Arrange for products to be made and process modifications to be tested with pilot or factory scale trials, attending trials as required.
  • Liaise with Quality Assurance to arrange analyses and stability trials.
  • Develop and adapt recipes and processes associated with the commissioning of new plant or equipment, aid in the installation of any associated peripheral systems, and prepare procedural changes when applicable.
  • Prepare pack copy and product specifications for new products.
  • Transfer agreed recipes at pilot/trial scale to production scale, issuing and controlling relevant documentation.
  • Undertake evaluation of competitors’ products.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • BSc or higher in a science-based subject.
  • Preferred: 2 years’ experience within the consumer goods/manufacturing industry.
  • Good knowledge of dairy or food processing is advantageous.
  • Experience with recipe development software, e.g., Bestmix, is beneficial.
  • Strong scientific knowledge and a keen interest in product development.
  • Excellent computer skills and numeracy.
  • A logical approach to problem-solving and the ability to learn quickly.
