Morgan Hunt is currently working on an opportunity for a Refuge Worker based in Kendal. This is a permanent, part time role, working 18 hours per week (evenings + sleep) on a 4-week rolling rota.

Our client supports anyone living in the South Lakeland area to live free from Domestic Abuse, offering advice, information and support. They offer refuge accommodation, the first for women and children to recover from their experiences and a second service providing safe emergency accommodation for male survivors of domestic abuse.

The role - Refuge Worker

As a Refuge Worker you will provide a high - quality domestic abuse support service, via holistic and person-centred group and 1:1 session. Working directly with residents you must be proficient in delivering high standards of customer care, to a variety of people. Ensuring residents feel welcomes, valued and supported. You will contribute to the referral assessment processes, ensuring a fair and open approach supporting residents to access safe secure accommodation.

  • Organise and deliver activities within the refuge that promote the wellbeing of our residents.
  • Contribute to receiving referrals into the service, including welcoming residents into the refuge.
  • Aware of resident and refuge risk assessments, ensuring compliance within safeguarding policies and procedures and appropriately responding to safeguarding concerns.
  • Ensuring void rooms are cleaned and ready for new residents.
  • Maintaining accurate and confidential client records.
  • Ensuring the accommodation is safe and secure at all times.
  • Performing any other duties deemed relevant to the post.

The candidate

  • Experience is not essential for this role, however the skills required as a Refuge Worker include being non-judgemental, respectful, warm, empathetic and a good listener.
  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent, with an excellent level of literacy and numeracy.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and organise workload
  • Clear understanding of maintaining professional boundaries
  • Committed to working in an inclusive and anti-discriminatory manner
  • Adaptable/flexible to accommodate changing priorities

Desirables include

  • A professional qualification from a recognised Domestic Abuse organisation or relevant professional knowledge around domestic abuse.
  • Experience in delivering 1:1 and group activities
  • Experience of using DASH risk assessments.
  • Experience of working in the voluntary/charitable sector.
