About the Role

The Finance Manager will support the Director of Finance & Corporate Resources and be a key member of a small but experienced corporate resources team. This role is central to ensuring the charity's financial systems run efficiently and that compliance across contracts, governance, and regulation is maintained to a high standard.

You’ll work closely with the wider team on all aspects of financial reporting, budgeting, audit support, and regulatory compliance, contributing to a well-run and transparent organisation.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management

  • Act as an effective internal business partner, providing timely, accurate financial information to support planning and performance.
  • Lead the month-end process including posting journals, purchase/sales ledger oversight, adjustments, and reconciliations.
  • Produce monthly management accounts packs including P&L, cashflow, and balance sheet reports, with analysis and commentary.
  • Support budget holders through the budgeting and reforecasting cycles, ensuring timelines and templates are maintained.
  • Manage payroll operations, Gift Aid, VAT, membership income, and other charity-specific financial processes.
  • Maintain strong relationships with external partners such as auditors, banks, pension providers, and insurers.
  • Oversee stakeholder engagement regarding invoices, payments, and financial queries.

Risk Management & Compliance

  • Maintain the organisation’s risk register and support governance processes such as internal audits.
  • Monitor and support compliance with contracts and agreements across all service areas.
  • Ensure the organisation meets regulatory requirements including data protection, health & safety, and fundraising compliance.
  • Participate actively in the Health & Safety working group and help foster a culture of safety and accountability.

General

  • Be flexible and responsive to the needs of a dynamic charity environment—supporting ad hoc projects or duties when required.

About You

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • Experience in finance and compliance within a charity or not-for-profit environment
  • A financial qualification or be working towards one (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) - or demonstrable experience and knowledge
  • A strong understanding of charity finance, accounting practices, and compliance requirements
  • An analytical and methodical approach, excellent attention to detail, and proactive problem-solving skills
  • Great interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships across teams and external stakeholders
  • Experience using Dynamics or Dynamics Busienss Central
  • Commitment to the values and mission of the charity sector
