We are excited to offer the opportunity for an enthusiastic and skilled Apprenticeships Functional Skills Tutor to join our dedicated team at The Bedford College Group. This role is pivotal in supporting our apprentices by delivering high-quality functional skills education in English and Mathematics.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Prepare, deliver, and assess Level 1 and Level 2 Functional Skills in English and Mathematics.
  • Support and guide students to achieve success and realise their potential.
  • Manage students’ learning and provide a high-quality learning experience.
  • Contribute proactively to curriculum development and innovate teaching methods.
  • Prepare schemes of work that meet the requirements of awarding bodies.
  • Develop and implement engaging learning materials across various media.
  • Assess and verify students' work to meet awarding body standards.
  • Monitor and record students’ progress, ensuring they meet required standards and deadlines.
  • Embed vocational opportunities into the learning experience through links with apprenticeships, real-life situations, and work-related opportunities.
  • Lead curriculum development and organise contributions from other teaching staff.
  • Act as a designated tutor and provide student support.
  • Mentor new teaching staff as a subject specialist.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Relevant degree and/or Level 3 qualifications in English and Mathematics.
  • Certificate in Education/PGCE or equivalent.
  • Recent experience teaching and assessing Functional Skills English and Mathematics.
  • Knowledge of current developments in the specialist area.
  • Excellent classroom management and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively to deadlines and continuously update skills and knowledge.
  • Awareness of health and safety requirements relevant to the job.
  • Commitment to own continuing professional development.
