About the Role

Our client who are a global tier one contractor has an exciting opportunity for a Temporary Works Design Engineer to join their Regional team to work across the UKCS Regional Civils (Central South East, and South) The types of projects will include, Highways, Bridges, Pump Station's, Heavy Civils, Major Utilities.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Temporary Works Design Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Undertaking temporary works design and checking for individual projects either independently or under the supervision of a senior engineer, including:
    • Site establishment
    • Haul roads
    • Working platforms
    • Service protection slabs
    • Shoring solutions
    • Earthworks excavation and slope stability
    • Formwork/falsework
    • Temporary bridges
    • Scaffolding and edge protection
    • Rebar cage stability
    • Propping

You will:

  • Ensure internal and subcontractor designs comply with the temporary works design brief and are delivered within the required timescale.
  • Ensure design risks are considered and prepare designers' risk assessments, communicating residual design risks as appropriate.
  • Be responsible for the completion of technical approval documents, including Approval in Principles (AIPs) for National Highways and Form C documents for Network Rail.
  • Provide support to both site and office-based teams involved with temporary works to ensure compliance with the client's Temporary Works Management Procedure.
  • Provide technical support to work-winning teams on the "buildability" of the design proposals and the development of safe, innovative, and cost-effective temporary works solutions.

Who We're Looking ForThis role requires an individual with the following qualifications, knowledge, experience, and personal qualities:

  • A degree or HNC (or equivalent) in civil or structural engineering, with a clear understanding of engineering principles.
  • Postgraduate experience, including either design (temporary and/or permanent works design) or site experience.
  • Some experience of site-based activities and knowledge of proprietary equipment commonly used in temporary works applications.
  • Awareness of current design standards, codes of practice, and published guidance documents relevant to temporary works.
  • Conversant with the management and procedures associated with temporary works as defined in BS5975: 2019.
  • Ability to establish good working relationships with both colleagues and external technical consultants and suppliers.
  • Confidently communicate engineering ideas and principles both verbally and in writing.
  • Working experience of AutoCAD and various design software packages (e.g., Hilti Profis, Tensar, Beam Pal/RMD Beam, GFSafe, WALLAP, ROBOT, and Geo 5 software) used for Temporary Works designs and checks.
  • Working towards full membership of an appropriate professional institution (ICE or IStructE).
