Purpose of the Role:

The Principal Contract Site Manager will oversee the delivery of the Overhead Lines replacement project for National Grid in Oxford. This role involves managing the site operations, ensuring safety, quality, and compliance, and supervising contractors and site staff throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Site Management & Leadership:Lead and manage all site activities related to the Overhead Lines replacement project, ensuring the work is executed efficiently, safely, and within budget. Provide clear direction to site teams and subcontractors, ensuring timely and high-quality project delivery.

  • Project Planning & Coordination:Develop and manage detailed site plans, schedules, and timelines. Coordinate with the project team and other stakeholders to ensure smooth site operations and resolve any issues as they arise.

  • Health & Safety Management:Ensure that all site activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations. Take the lead in enforcing a culture of safety on-site and carry out regular safety audits, risk assessments, and toolbox talks.

  • Quality Control & Compliance:Oversee quality control processes to ensure that the installation and construction of overhead lines meet the specified standards. Monitor the quality of work performed and ensure compliance with National Grid's requirements and industry standards.

  • Contractor & Stakeholder Management:Supervise and manage subcontractors and external teams, ensuring work is completed according to agreed schedules and quality expectations. Serve as the main point of contact for National Grid representatives, providing regular updates and reporting on project progress.

  • Risk Management & Problem Resolution:Proactively identify potential risks to project progress, cost, and quality. Take the necessary steps to mitigate these risks and resolve any issues that arise on-site quickly and efficiently.

Qualifications & Experience:
  • Essential Qualifications:

    • SR163 (Site Manager) certification
    • NSI 2-4 (National Grid Specific Competency) certification
    • SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme)
    • First Aid at Work certification
    • Valid CSCS card
    • Full UK driving license
  • Experience:

    • Proven experience as a Site Manager or Principal Site Manager, particularly within overhead line installation or related infrastructure projects.
    • Extensive experience working on National Grid projects, with a strong understanding of their procedures, health, safety, and quality standards.
    • Demonstrable experience managing large-scale projects, coordinating teams, and delivering projects within budget and on time.
    • Strong understanding of health and safety regulations and experience managing site safety.
