Job Title: Highways Estimator

Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Highways Estimator to join our infrastructure and civil engineering team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for highway construction and maintenance projects. This role requires strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of construction processes, and the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and pricing strategies for highway construction and infrastructure projects.

  • Analyse drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive cost estimates for small civils and capital projects.

  • Evaluate tender documents and identify project risks and opportunities.

  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to develop cost-effective solutions.

  • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain up-to-date pricing and scope details.

  • Attend pre-tender and client meetings as required.

  • Ensure estimates are in line with industry regulations and standards.

  • Track and analyse historical data to improve accuracy and efficiency in future estimates.

  • Support the handover process to project delivery teams upon successful tender award.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in estimating within the highways or civil engineering sector (5+ years).

  • Strong knowledge of highway construction methods, materials, and relevant regulations.

  • Excellent mathematical and analytical skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.

  • Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related field (preferred).

  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., ICE, RICS, CIHT) is a plus.

  • Experience in estimation software such as Causeway, Candy, or similar tools is a plus.
