Have you or are you about to retire or leave the armed forces and are now considering your next career move?

Education is a rewarding sector and working with us as a Teaching Assistant is a great stepping stone onto the pathway of becoming a Teacher.

We are working in partnership with a growing school based near Oakham and are welcoming calm, resilient individuals with an understanding of SEND to join the team as soon as possible. Working with this school is significantly different to your average mainstream school, as the school caters for pupils primarily with SEMH and ADHD, class sizes are much smaller to better support the needs of it's students. There is also a higher ratio of staff per pupil.

This is a temporary to permanent role, the perfect opportunity to find out if education could be the right pathway for you moving forward. You will move onto a permanent contract following a successful introductory period at the school with Reed Education.

Working Hours: 08.00 to 16.00, Monday to Friday, Term-Time Only

To be successful as a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will need:

  • To be an engaging individual with a passion for working with and inspiring young people with additional needs
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Bags of patience and a laid back approach, to understanding individual student behaviours
  • Creativity
  • The ability to adjust and adapt, in order to meet the everchanging needs of pupils
  • Minimum of GCSE Maths and English to Grade C or Equivalent Level 2 Functional Skills

What does the day-to-day look like?

  • Firstly, no two days in this school are the same.... I could probably say that no two hours are the same confidently!
  • Students are working to a primary education curriculum, which is a broad range of subjects including literacy and numeracy.
  • There is a HUGE emphasis in school on high energy activities and physical education, you can be sure the day to day will see lots of gym activities, running, walking, trampolining, sports games, cycling, crazy golf and table tennis to name a few.
  • You'll support pupils throughout the day with activities assigned to them, encouraging them to stay as on task as possible.
  • You'll support the class teacher with any class and resource preparation as required for students.
  • You'll liaise regularly with a very supportive team, who all have the pupils at the forefront of everything they do/every decision they make.

You made it this far, so you must be interested!! But, what should you do next?
