Great Chemistry teaching is defined by a genuine love for the subject and an extensive knowledge of how students learn. Would you like to work in a talented, highly motivated and supportive team within our Science Learning Area? Would you like to teach a challenging, engaging and diverse curriculum? This is a superb opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Teacher of Chemistry, who has the skills and drive to inspire students and colleagues to raise standards even further.

This school is an 11-18 all ability, co-educational school for the community. As an inclusive and stimulating school they offer a range of excellent facilities and high-quality teaching that provides their students with an outstanding and supportive education from their very first day. Some ways they create a positive culture:

  • A teaching load for a main scale teacher of 83% compared to the National suggested rate of 85%, to enable more time for coaching, CPD and planning and to support an effective work life balance.
  • They recognise CPD around wellbeing being important and our Wellbeing Governor is a published author, Dr Emma Kell, who works with the school to keep improving and supporting staff to stay on top of their wellbeing.
  • Professional approach to performance management through coaching and not high stakes lesson observations.
  • The culture is reinforced by non-lesson grading. "Feedback is free" and should be used with empathy and understanding as a way to support each other.

  • Centralised detentions, centralised homework prep time and centralised rewards processes.

About the area:Kings Langley is a large village equidistant between the towns of Hemel Hempstead and Watford to the north and south. The school was established in 1959 to be the secondary school for the villages of South West Hertfordshire, so the surrounding landscape is of woodland and farmland with country lanes. There is a real sense of the village being on the rural-urban fringe, with the M25 to the south, the A41 hidden in a cutting to the west and the intercity railway line and the Grand Union Canal running to the east of the village, along the valley of the River Gade. The village railway station is served by London Northwestern trains into London Euston, a journey of 27 minutes.
