Job purpose:

15 hours per week CIPD QUALIFIED OR HR EMPLOYEE RELATIONS EXPERIENCE

To advise and represent individual members and or/groups of members in relation to terms and conditions of employment and in respect to problems at work. This will include representation and organising in the private and community sector and in education settings, across a wide range of employers.

To assist in the recruitment of new members and to actively assist the development and organisation of the Branch and related tasks.

The duties will include:

  • Representing members at disciplinary, capability and grievance investigations, hearings and appeals.
  • Accurate and timely case preparation, management and recording, ensuring all casework records are up to date, filed appropriately and in line with data protection legislation.
  • Providing information, advice and support to members in relation to any work-related issues e.g. disciplinary, grievance, capability, sickness absence, performance impairment plan.
  • Maintaining good levels of communication with members and the Branch Committee at all times, reacting in a timely and professional manner and responding to new enquiries promptly.
  • Jointly with other branch staff, take responsibility for branch admin, e.g. responding or directing members’ queries to the relevant person, checking branch inbox for any new email, and participating in organising branch AGM once a year.
  • Liaising with the Branch Secretary and if needed with the regional office on more complex cases, obtaining advice and support in accordance with the agreed procedure
  • Ensuring that appropriate levels of confidentiality are maintained at all times
  • Recruitment: When meeting with and representing members, encourage them to be more involved in the Kingston Branch.
  • Attend Council’s and other employers' staff induction days in order to recruit new members.
  • Advising, supporting, organising and mentoring stewards and workplace representatives with casework.
  • Developing good working relationships with employers and managers as appropriate, engaging and negotiating with them in relation to casework.
  • Work closely with the Branch to achieve its organising aims and objectives
  • Participate in relevant training, including Branch training in order to keep trade union accreditation up to date.
  • Communicate information about your work as required by the Branch Secretary and branch administrative staff.

Once a month attend branch committee meetings, providing verbal/written/presentation reports for the committee on the work undertaken or in progress, e.g. local activities, casework, and recruitment activities
