A dynamic and thriving secondary school in Dudley (DY1) is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Head of Year 7 (non-teaching) to provide essential pastoral support and guidance for students transitioning into secondary school. This role is pivotal in ensuring that Year 7 students feel supported and engaged throughout their first year in secondary school.

As the Head of Year 7, you will serve as the key point of contact for parents, carers and external agencies while working closely with staff to maintain high standards of behaviour, attendance and academic engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance and support on learning, health and safety matters specific to Year 7 students.
  • Implementing strategies to ensure a smooth transition for Year 7 students.
  • Promote students' physical, emotional and mental well-being.
  • Act as the primary liaison between the Year 7 team, parents and external organisations.
  • Ensure adherence to safeguarding policies and child protection procedures.
  • Be the main point of contact for staff referrals regarding Year 7 behavioural issues and work with the team to implement solutions.
  • Collect, collate, and follow up on incident reports, student statements and any concerns.
  • Monitor, distribute, and track report cards, providing updates on student progress and areas for improvement.
  • Manage incidents, ensuring appropriate policies and interventions are enforced.
  • Prepare detailed incident reports, maintaining clear communication with parents.
  • Address attendance concerns by contacting parents, conducting home visits where necessary, and implementing improvement strategies.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience in a pastoral, behaviour or mentoring role within a secondary school setting.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • Ability to manage student behaviour and support the emotional well-being of young people.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
