Ackerman Pierce are looking to recruit a Director of Public Health within Dudley. The vacancy will be for an initial 3-6 months with potential for extension subject to internal circumstance and your performance.

Responsibilities include:

The Director of Public Health is a statutory chief officer of the Council and the principal adviser on all health matters to elected members and officers, with a leadership role spanning all three domains of public health: health improvement, health protection and healthcare public health.

  • Provide strategic leadership to Heads of Service and other senior managers / consultants on Health and Well Being matters to realise the Council's vision and objectives through effective operational delivery of services.
  • Provide professional challenge and support to Heads of Service and other senior managers through motivational and inspiring leadership and by demonstrating a visible commitment to corporate values.
  • Hold Heads of Service and other relevant senior managers to account for the effective delivery of their services through well-considered performance management processes.
  • Establish and sustain effective working relationships with portfolio holders, Cabinet, and other elected members in supporting and implementing the Council's strategic priorities and objectives through an integrated approach to service delivery.
  • Provide advice and guidance to Council and to Cabinet on the service impact of political agendas and support the Strategic Director, Chief Executive, and lead members in shaping and setting the Council's strategic direction.
  • Support the Strategic Director in the interpretation of political priorities and assist in the development of the Council's approach to the commissioning of services that are effective in meeting agreed corporate objectives.

Experience preferred:

  • Post qualifying experience of working within a statutory team within the UK Social Care industry.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Enhanced DBS/CRB (we can obtain for you)
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Experience working at Director level within a local authority
