About the Opportunity

 Contract Scotland is delighted to present an exciting opportunity to join a well-respected regional civil engineering contractor as a Works Manager.

Based in Fife, our client boasts over 80 years of experience in successfully delivering civil engineering projects up to £2 million in value for both public and private sector clients across East Central Scotland. Specialising in groundworks, earthworks, drainage, and concrete packages, this organisation operates primarily as a main contractor. Despite its long-standing industry presence, the company maintains a “family feel,” staying true to traditional values and principles.

 

Role Overview

As the Works Manager, you will play a critical role in steering the company’s future success. This position encompasses strategic leadership and operational oversight, ensuring the delivery of high-quality projects while fostering strong client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

Your duties will include:

  • Identifying potential commercial opportunities during the tender process.
  • Preparing and submitting tenders with precision.
  • Enforcing Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) protocols.
  • Managing project resources to meet programme schedules.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with new and existing clients.
  • Developing and overseeing short- and long-term project schedules.
  • Producing detailed monthly progress reports.
  • Managing on-site labour and equipment effectively.
  • Undertaking setting-out duties when required.
  • Ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Monitoring project performance and implementing corrective measures as needed.
  • Leading project closure activities and compiling final reports.
  • Shaping and executing the company’s commercial strategy.
  • Preparing and delivering management reports in a timely manner.
  • Evaluating staff performance and fostering development opportunities.

Candidate Profile

To be successful in this role, you should have:

 

  • A degree or HND in civil engineering or a related discipline.
  • Solid experience working on civil engineering projects.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects concurrently with effective resource allocation.
  • A systematic and methodical approach to tasks.
  • Strong commercial acumen and strategic thinking for successful financial outcomes.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively with stakeholders.
