We are looking for aMarket Analystto join our successfulCommercial Services Teamteam. This is aHome Basedrole, with some occasional travel required to our Kirkham head office.

Role and Responsibilities

The successful candidate's responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Market reporting: We produce a variety of market intelligence from written reports to presentations. As part of the team, you would be responsible for writing about significant market events that could impact energy commodity prices, fundamentals impacting the market (e.g., gas demand, renewable generation, etc), reviews of what prices have done and why, and our outlook on where prices could go.
  • Research: We often do deep dives into specific market dynamics and write long-form content to share this information internally and with clients.
  • Analysis: We produce pieces of market analysis looking at correlations between market fundamentals and prices to help us make more informed decisions about what is driving market prices.
  • Data fetching and visualisation: We take data from a variety of different sources and make it available internally. We often display this data as charts in Excel or PowerBI to make it more consumable.

Experience and Qualifications

Essential:

  • STEM or economics/finance background. The role will involve research and some statistical analysis so a background of using this would be helpful.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) necessary.
  • Short- and long-form writing experience.

Desirable:

  • Experience in energy markets. As part of your training, you will be taught how wholesale energy markets work and what drives prices.
  • Coding experience in VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) and/or Python. Use of APIs to fetch data in any language would be useful.
  • PowerBI experience desired but not necessary.

Opportunities for you:

  • As part of the Market Analysis team, you will have an opportunity to gain your Technical Analysis qualifications (run by the Society of Technical Analysts).
  • Learn how to write code to fetch and manipulate data. In the future there may also be opportunities to do deeper analysis of this data through machine learning (AI).
  • For those interested in risk management, the market analysis position serves to give you the necessary market understanding to be able to move into a risk management position.
  • There may be opportunities to learn about and implement financial models for energy commodity pricing.
