Location: Lancaster

Salary: Up to £28,922 per annum

The Role

As a Careers and Employability Adviser you will join their supportive and hard working team in Lancaster. You will deliver employability and careers guidance to a range of adults who may or may not be in work. You will support people to make decisions about their future careers, including training opportunities and career progression.

This post is permanent. The hours of work for this position are 37 per week, however requests for part time hours will also be considered.

Key responsibilities:

  • Proactively managing a caseload of participants providing individual in-depth support throughout their journey from initial assessment through to securing and sustaining gainful employment by:
  • Providing high quality 1:1 diagnostic career information and advice work
  • Providing intensive support to participants, motivating and encouraging candidates to overcome any personal barriers to employment and building confidence
  • Working on a 1:1 basis developing comprehensive action plans with individual customers
  • Supporting participants to identify and develop transferable skills and support them in the use of appropriate online resources
  • Planning and delivering group sessions to meet the needs of customers as required
  • Maintaining an awareness and understanding of the local labour market and building and maintaining external relationships to help support participants into suitable employment
  • Completing all relevant documentation to the required standard and within required timescales
  • Proactively managing own caseload, following up with customers to ensure advice given has made a difference.
  • Achieving all contractual targets

Skills and Qualifications

Whilst they would be delighted to hear from you if you have previous experience of working in the employability sector, or if you have a level 4 Careers Information Advice and Guidance qualification, they are also interested to hear from people who have worked in other sectors where you've relished the opportunity to achieve a personal target whilst excelling at providing outstanding customer service, as training can be provided for the right candidate.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate:

  • A good standard of literacy and numeracy (GCSE grade 4 / C or equivalent);
  • The ability to identify, establish and maintain effective working partnerships for the benefit of customers;
  • The ability to keep accurate and up to date records with a good attention to detail. This includes data entry on electronic systems;
  • Good interactive skills and the ability to respond to demanding pressures and to meet deadlines;
  • An ability to work on own initiative and a proactive approach to problem solving.

As their work focuses on supporting individuals in securing employment, it is essential that candidates demonstrate the ability to produce high quality CVs and cover letters, and/or job applications. Your ability to meet this standard will form part of our selection process.
