SEMH Teaching Assistant

Vision for Education are recruiting for an SEMH Teaching Assistant for specialist settings in Lancaster and the surrounding areas. The role is due to start ASAP on a full-time basis.

Pay will be £400-£450 per week (subject to qualifications and experience)

About the role

We have full-time vacancies in alternative providers in Lancaster and the surrounding areas, supporting children to manage their behaviour both in and out of the classroom.

We are looking for an individual who has a passion for creating fun and engaging ways to support students with SEMH learning needs who exhibit challenging behaviours related to their learning needs.

You will be required to support in small classes from Year 7 – Year 11, using behaviour management skills in assisting pupils in overcoming barriers to learning.

Pupils are all aged 11-16 with EHCPs for Social, Emotional & Mental Health needs (SEMH) as well as associated needs such as Autism or ADHD.

About the school

The schools are based within Lancaster and surrounding village areas and offers broad curriculums based on children’s needs and interests including vocational learning.

Lessons take place in small groups of no more than 8 pupils.

The school focuses on areas where progress can be made whether that's emotionally, socially, behaviourally or academically.

There are opportunities for the role to become permanent with the school after a qualifying period.

Requirements

To be considered for the role of SEMH Teaching Assistant you will:

• Be confident in behaviour management skills to de-escalate any threatening or aggressive behaviour.

• To mentor and engage with the students, delivering specifically designed educational packages.

• You will need to be resilient, empathetic, patient and not take things too personally.

• Experience working in schools with SEMH children is desirable.

• Due to the rural location of some of the settings, it is essential for any successful candidates to the post to be able to drive or have daily access to a vehicle as public transport links are infrequent.

Salary
