I am currently recruiting on behalf of one of the UK's leading providers of Education & Support to recruit experienced and dedicated Learning Support Assistants for a college supporting young learners 16+ in Lancaster. The college supports learners with a variety of profound and multiple learning difficulties, including working with learners who are non-verbal, have a hearing impairment, rely on or occasionally require the use of a wheelchair/hoist and have complex health and social care needs.

Title: Learning Support Assistant - Complex Needs

Pay: 11.60 - 12.20 p/h depending on experience

Location: Lancaster, Lancashire

Hours: 38 hours per week

Contract: Permanent

What you'll be doing as a Learning Support Assistant:

  • Supporting and supervising visually impaired learners, hearing impaired, have mobility issues or have complex health or social needs in classroom environments, assisting in accessing the community, and participating in activities to help develop life skills
  • Providing personal care where necessary
  • Working with learners in small groups and or working 1:1
  • Work in accordance with the school's behaviour management policies

What you'll need to be successful as a Learning Support Assistant:

  • At least 3 months experience of working with young people in schools or childcare settings
  • Experience within an SEN setting would be beneficial
  • You must be comfortable supporting young people with personal care
  • Basic Sign language or Makaton would be an advantage
