An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Instrument Technician to join a progressive and commercially driven scientific instrument manufacturing company. Working within a skilled and motivated team, this role focuses on high-quality assembly and testing of vacuum-based instruments, with a strong emphasis on precision, consistency, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assemble high-quality vacuum instruments from kits of parts, working at a bench as part of a small team.
- Oversee all aspects of instrument builds, including final inspection and testing.
- Repair and service products, occasionally installing customer-owned instruments in-house or on-site.
- Conduct testing and calibration of finished products.
- Travel may be required after gaining relevant product knowledge and experience.
- Maintain accurate administrative records to ensure compliance with quality standards.
What We’re Looking For:
- Electro-mechanical assembly and test experience in a relevant industry.
- Background in electro-mechanical system build manufacturing.
- Ability to fault-find using circuit diagrams.
- Experience in electrical and electronic testing.
- Hands-on experience with precision-engineered mechanical assembly.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical engineering drawings.
- Experience using electrical test equipment (e.g., multimeters) and mechanical measurement instruments (e.g., micrometers, Vernier gauges).
- Strong manual dexterity and experience using hand and power tools.
- High attention to detail and the ability to work to tight production deadlines.
Preferred Experience (Not Essential):
- Experience working with vacuum-based scientific instrumentation.
- Understanding of vacuum engineering principles.
- Familiarity with helium leak checking and safe handling of pressurised gas bottles.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques (Kaizen, Kanban, 5S, etc.).
Additional Requirements:
- Good colour perception (must pass a colour perception test).
- Ability to sit/stand for long periods and handle heavy equipment as required.
- Due to the rural location, own transport is essential.
