Purpose of the Transport Contract Manager Role:

This is an exciting opportunity for a Transport Contract Manager to lead and oversee a dedicated transport contract for a key client in the Midlands. Reporting to the Transport Manager, you will be responsible for the operational and financial performance of the contract, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and excellent customer service.

You will manage a team of drivers and office staff, ensuring they are motivated and working to business and customer expectations. The ideal candidate will be strategic, customer-focused, and commercially aware, with strong leadership and problem-solving skills to enhance operations and profitability.

 

Key Responsibilities for a Transport Contract Manager:

  • Client & Contract Management – Build and maintain strong relationships with the customer, ensuring all contractual requirements and KPIs are met.
  • Transport Operations – Plan and route deliveries efficiently, ensuring compliance with EU Drivers Hours Rules & Regulations, WTD, OCRS, and FORS requirements.
  • Team Leadership – Manage and develop drivers and office staff, ensuring performance, compliance, and high service standards.
  • Compliance & Safety – Uphold all Health & Safety policies and ensure legal compliance across the fleet operation.
  • Process Improvement – Continuously identify opportunities to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve profitability.
  • Financial Management – Monitor transport costs, including fuel usage, toll charges, and overnight parking costs.
  • Performance Monitoring – Track and analyse KPIs, including on-time deliveries, customer satisfaction, and empty miles.

 

Key Requirements for a Transport Contract Manager:

  • Experience in traffic management within a customer-facing transport operation.
  • Strong knowledge of general haulage, groupage, and transport planning.
  • Experience managing drivers and ensuring compliance with transport regulations.
  • National CPC qualification (advantageous).
  • Excellent customer service and relationship management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with a ‘can-do’ approach.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to handle time-sensitive tasks effectively.
