Job Opportunity - Principal Accountant

Location: CV32 4AT
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Duration: 6+ months
Working Hours: Mon - Fri, 09:00 - 17:00, 37 hours per week
Pay Rate: 500 per day PAYE (inside IR35)

As a Principal Accountant, you will:

  • Ensure the Council's financial processes comply with legislative requirements and best practices.
  • Lead the preparation, monitoring, and reporting of budgets and final accounts.
  • Develop financial management systems to improve service delivery.
  • Provide expert financial advice to senior officers, Members, and committees.
  • Manage a team of finance professionals, ensuring high-quality service delivery.
  • Represent the Council with external auditors, government agencies, and key suppliers.

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proficiency in computer-based financial management systems (e.g., General Ledger).
  • Deep understanding of legislative Codes of Practice for Local Government Finance.
  • Proven ability to create and manage complex spreadsheets.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret legislation and regulations.
  • Excellent report-writing and communication skills.
