We are recruiting for a Principal Power Electronics Engineer to join our client in Leamington Spa. This is an exciting opportunity with a global engineering consultancy specializing in the rapid development of sustainable electrified propulsion systems across industries such as automotive, commercial vehicles, off-highway etc.Â
As Principal Engineer of Power Electronics, you will lead the development of power electronics systems from concept to hardware for a variety of applications, including traction inverters, DC-DC converters, and On-Board Chargers. You will manage the design, circuit requirements, component selection, and prototype hardware implementation, and work in a well-equipped facility for virtual, HiL, and hardware testing. The role also involves dynamic project management, including technical, commercial, and customer-facing responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead the design and specification of magnetics and capacitors for power converters and inverters
- Design mixed-signal systems and processing platforms
- Lead simulation activities using industry tools (e.g., Simscape, PLECS)
- Collaborate on control strategies for power converters and inverters
- Ensure design compliance with IEC61508, ISO26262, CISPR25
- Manage cross-functional, multi-person projects and build key customer relationships
- Drive new technical capabilities, project proposals, and business development
- Extensive experience in power electronics and magnetics technology (e.g., inverters, OBC, DC/DC, AC/DC) across sectors like automotive, aerospace, off-highway, commercial vehicle, defense, clean energy, or marine
- Expertise in digital and mixed-signal control and interface circuits
- Experience in noise attenuation and EMC design
- Strong experience in simulation environments for power electronic and magnetic systems
- Ability to lead development projects and build technical relationships with customers
- Degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline
- Familiarity with digital motor control schemes (e.g., IPM, SPM, ASM, SR) and control strategies (FOC, field-weakening, harmonic current injection, NVH, fault protection)
- Proven experience in power electronics hardware development in lab, rig, and final sector environments
- Experience in PCB layout, mechanical system design, and manufacturing power electronics systems
- Expertise in fluid systems, thermal simulation, and management in power electronics systems
- Training in the safe use of high-power, high-voltage test equipment
