Job Summary:

The Senior Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing the company's general ledger, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. This role will oversee the day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate has extensive bookkeeping experience, a strong understanding of accounting principles, and the ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and update the general ledger, ensuring all financial transactions are accurately recorded.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Reconcile bank and credit card accounts on a regular basis.
  • Accounts Payable and Receivable:
  • Process invoices, payments, and receipts, ensuring timely and accurate entries.
  • Monitor and manage accounts payable and receivable balances.
  • Ensure compliance with payment terms and follow up on outstanding invoices.
  • Process payroll, including calculating wages, deductions, and taxes.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Prepare and file payroll tax returns.
  • Prepare and present financial reports to management, including budget vs. actual analysis.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Conduct variance analysis and report on financial performance.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Assist with internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations.
  • Keep up-to-date with changes in accounting standards and regulations.
  • Support the Finance Manager in ad hoc projects and financial analysis as required.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior bookkeeping staff.
  • Continuously improve accounting processes to increase efficiency and accuracy.

Experience required:

  • Minimum of 5 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a senior role.
  • Strong experience with accounting software Sage 50
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles and best practices.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
