This permanent role is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development, integration, and documentation of interior payload system requirements for large aircraft modifications, ensuring compliance with regulatory and customer requirements as defined in the company's Design Organisation Handbook (DOH).
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Interiors Engineering Manager and global engineering services team across multiple time zones to identify requirements and provide solutions for current and upcoming projects
- Develop engineering design solutions using CAD for modifications to aircraft cabin systems, including:
- New Layout of Passenger Accommodation (LOPA) and associated changes
- Installation of galleys, monuments, and lavatories
- Modifications to environmental systems (air conditioning, water, waste)
- Introduction of new aircraft paint schemes and emergency marking systems
- Installation/Modification of Overhead Flight Crew Rest (OFCR) and Overhead Crew Rest Station (OCRS)
- Produce substantiation documents to demonstrate compliance with regulatory and operational requirements, including:
- Flammability documentation
- Design reports
- Ground test plans and reports
- Cabin walkthrough plans and reports
- System Safety Analysis for interior components and systems
- Compile engineering accomplishment documentation and instructions for continued airworthiness, such as Service Bulletins and aircraft manual supplements
- Attend meetings and represent on aircraft surveys and on-site installation support both in the UK and overseas
- Support statement of work and bids for new customer requests
- Collaborate with customers, vendors, MROs, regulatory agencies, and other teams to create engineering solutions that meet customer expectations
- Undertake a variety of design projects from simple changes to complex STCs
- Engage in instructor-led training courses to improve hard and soft skills
Job Requirements:
- BEng in Mechanical Engineering or a similar field, ideally with experience in aircraft interiors mechanical/structural design engineering
- Current or recent employment within the aerospace industry, specifically working with an EASA Part 21J Design Organisation (or equivalent)
- Industrial experience with CATIA V5 and/or AutoCAD
- Knowledge and experience of aircraft interior reconfiguration programmes and primary and secondary aircraft structures
- Working knowledge of sheet metal forming, fabrication, and machining
- Familiarity with aircraft material and fastener selection, hole size types, sealants, and finishing techniques
- Understanding of EASA regulatory and airworthiness requirements, including (E)TSO, CS-25, CFR Part 25, and Part 21J
- High level of attention to detail and professional integrity
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively on multiple programmes with varying requirements
- Flexibility to prioritise workloads and adapt to changing situations
