Senior Chemist

Reed Scientific is seeking a Senior Chemist with a strong background in chemistry or food science, who is enthusiastic about innovation and quality control in organic chemistry and compound development. This role is ideal for someone with proven leadership experience, enjoys hands on R&D projects creating new products and would enjoy learning more about applications with the food and beverage industry.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Product Development and Research:  Develop new products and flavours based on customer-driven demand. Formulate flavour compound/complexes and dilute to achieve specific results.
  • Quality Management: Oversee and enhance the Quality Management System for the flavour team, ensuring compliance and efficiency.
  • Process Optimisation: Work closely with the production team to streamline processes and implement improvements.
  • Equipment and Supplies Management: Manage the procurement, testing, and maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Team Collaboration: Provide support and leadership to the team, ensuring effective collaboration and communication.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Food Science, or related field.
  • Experience: At least 3-4 years industrial experience ideally working in flavour science (transferable experience from other industries such as materials, coatings, paint, polymer also considered) and with proven success in a management or supervisory role leading a team of scientists.
  • Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, familiarity with ISO & Quality standards, excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, and effective time management.
  • Personal Traits: A keen interest in food science, detail-oriented, proactive with a valid driver’s license and access to a car, as well as full right to work in the UK (visa sponsorship is not offered).
